Twangy California Rock
Former Bass/Vocals Eddy Sill of the infamous Los Angeles band "The Mutts" has suddenly stumbled upon a few other "fellow drinkers" to surprisingly form this fun and melodic band with extremely catchy songs. Is this too good to be true?!
John Adair (Guitar, Harmonica, Mandolin, Vocals) Dean Lyons (Guitar, Vocals) along with Steve Markowitz (Drums) and Bryon Haney (Keys, Piano) comprise "The Popravinas!" The "funnest" party you ever went to---The party after the party!
That would quickly describe "The Popravinas" who are known to combine lyrics & sounds that are reminiscent of The Replacements, evolving guitar nuances in the vein of The Rolling Stones, and interesting touches of artists such as Whiskeytown, Wilco & The Old 97's. When you mix it all up...you come out with "The Popravinas."
Already known for their commanding and fun-filled live shows, the band has 4 full-length albums and a few single releases that have been international ear-shakers....The heavily anticipated new single, "3 Month Situation," is available now with their 5th album to follow this fall.
If you wanna experience a good time and hear some memorable tunes...You're in the right place!
See you at the bar!
Eddy Sill was born at Allegheny Valley Hospital, just 23 miles up the Allegheny River from where his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers play.
His childhood goal was to be a Major League Baseball player, but when he found out how hard it was to hit fast pitching in Little League, he turned to trying to write Pop/Rock and Roll hits.
Taking up the bass guitar in his early teens, he started out as a member of The Dogs in Ft Myers, FL, where he graduated from high school.
After some band endeavors in NYC, Eddy ended up in Los Angeles, CA, with the now infamous group The Mutts. It was then that he really swung into gear as far as lead singing, bass and writing songs, as exhibited on their WEA International album release “Stinko’s Ranch” that earned an “A” in Entertainment Weekly.
As time has moved on, Eddy now fronts the Twangy California Rock and Roll sounds of The Popravinas, who have released four albums so far.
It’s been a fun and melodic ride, and the best is yet to come!
Although a Californian for over 20 years, lead guitarist/producer John Adair hails from the number one state capital (alphabetically).
He plays most things with strings, some a lot better than others.
In lieu of a personal description, here is what others have been saying about his particular splendor:
“…A DIY production via John Adair, the sound here is crisp and snappy from start to finish; with every instrument coming through the speakers individually while creating lovely combined sounds that enhance every song…”
“…Adair chips in with an explosive solo…”
“…beautiful guitar fills…”
“Guitarist and producer John Adair has added some pretty sweet country licks…”
“..faultless guitar chord movements and a magnetic momentum…”
“… a wonderful example of fret-filled musicianship and twang…”
“..a well-tooled guitar sound influenced by The Rolling Stones, Soul Asylum, Whiskeytown and The Old 97’s…”
Wanting to be the next Jimmy Page (or was it Ace Frehley?), Dean Lyons taught himself to play guitar at age 13 with a couple of Mel Bay guitar books. While influenced by lots of classic, hard, glam, surf and pop rock, Dean thinks nothing is better than a good ol' guitar oriented, pop song.
Dean has played lead guitar in a handful of cover bands over the years around Southern California, including CoverStory, Burnin’ Lions, and Chablis.
It was late 2006 or so that Dean finally tried his hand at an original band that really caught his ear.
The band was none other than....The Popravinas!
Favorite guitarists are Nigel Tufnel, Dewey Finn, and Russell Hammond.

Drummer Steve Markowitz began performing with The Popravinas in 2019.
Steve has performed in venues large and small throughout his birthplace of Los Angeles along with numerous acts across the country and internationally. His drumming has appeared on quite a few major and indie label recordings as well as many high profile television appearances. A career highlight has been playing in a band with his father for quite a few years, something that very few musicians can say.
He immediately fit right in with The Popravinas with his wit and ever-present cold beer in hand. He has all the charm of a Hollywood director, and the grit of a luxury classic car collector.
Specializing in “simple and to the point” drum beats, Steve paints the backdrop for the various melodic tunes of the band.
Every Rock and Roll band needs a guy with the stability that Steve brings in countless ways.
Keyboardist Bryon Haney resides in Charleston, SC. You might ask how that works with a band based on the West Coast, but it actually works quite well!
He suddenly hooked up with the outfit on The Popravinas 2019 Northeastern tour, and has been an integral part of their sound ever since.
His catchy keys are most prevalent on the bands latest record, “Goons West,” as he adds terrific flavors to many songs including “Self Made Derecho” and “Do The Creep.”
Nicknamed “The Wanderer,” you never know when and where Bryon is going to show up, as he’s been sighted behind the keys in some Central California shows in the spring of 2023, along with the latest East Coast run in the summer of 2023.
If you see him in the left corner behind the keyboards at a Popravinas gig, make sure you keep your eyes on him, as he could be gone in a puff of smoke!
See you at the bar!
